Sunday throwback track time. One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite musicians. In 2010 I listened to a steady diet of Lee all year long and I definitely still need to break it out from time to time.
Pill Wonder have been around for a while now and this particular track has been one of my favorites for the last year or so. It had been some time since I last listened to this great 2 minute cut...
I've been listening to the new Hunx And His Punx album on heavy repeat for the past few days. Too Young To Be In Love is out next Tuesday on Hardly Art. Get it!
To continue with all things Crystal Stilts here is the official video for "Through The Floor". In Love With Oblivion is out on April 12 via Slumberland.
Just posted about this ep yesterday. Definitely enjoying Die Jungen's $ and I'd have to say "I Surrender" is my favorite cut. Definitely a wall of sound thing going on here.
So, the song is listed as "Blood Barons" on the video below, but I'm quite certain the title is actually "Flying Into The Sun". (just as this one is listed as 'Flying Into The Sun', although it seems its actually called 'Death Is What We Live For') These tracks can be found on the insanely good upcoming LP from Brooklyn's finest Crystal Stilts. In Love With Oblivion is out April 12, on Slumberland.
Die Jungen recently released an excellent digital download ep entitled $. Check out one of the album cuts below, complete with perfectly fitting vintage surf videos.
Something a little different here, but a friend on facebook posted this and I had to steal it. Too bad the cameraman is such a jerk... Anyway, this guy is amazing and I love this.
Another one from the great new Smith Western's album, Dye It Blonde. Courtesy of Pitchfork TV, head over here to see the band perform a few more cuts off the album.
If you don't know about The Monks you definitely need to read about them. This is one of the great cuts off the amazing 2009 reissue The Early Years 1964-1965.
After giving this tune a shout out just yesterday, this morning I noticed that GvB posted a GREAT live version of The Sandwitches performing for the Bay Area blog EchoLocale. Check out the video for "My Heart Does Swell" below, or jump on over here to also check out The Sandwitches covering the Disney classic "Baby Mine".
Still no Crystal Stilts leak, but as I wait for that other things continue to trickle out... Today The Sandwitches follow up to their excellent LP, How To Make Ambient Sadcake, hit the wed. On first listen Mrs. Jones' Cookies sounds pretty fantastic. I can't seem to find standout track "My Heart Does Swell" anywhere on the net, so instead here are a couple other equally fun songs off the the upcoming album. Mrs. Jones' Cookies is out March 29 on Empty Cellar.
I've been rocking out to Smith Westerns sophomore effort since just before Xmas and I still feel the need to break it out on a regular basis. For me, Dye It Blonde will definitely be in the running for album of the year when all is said and done. Out now on Fat Possum! I dig every track on the album but I'm currently obsessed with this amazing cut:
Oh, I've been anticipating this one for awhile. Here is the first sneak peak at Family Portrait upcoming debut album. The Family Portrait LP is out April 5 via Underwater Peoples.

The weekends will serve as time to post classic tracks that I love, rather than current stuff I'm into. First up is Alexander Lee "Skip" Spence, the Canadian born singer-songwriter. He started off as the drummer on Jefferson Airplane's debut album, but also came out with the excellent solo album Oar. Check out "Cripple Creek", my favorite track off the solo album, below.
Dirty Beaches is the project of Taiwanese born Alex Zhang Hungtai. The excellent "Lord Knows Best" is one of the standout tracks from his upcoming debut album Badlands, out March 29th on Zoo Music.
No matter the project, Sonny Smith continues to turn out one great track after another. Sonny & The Sunsets will be coming out with their second album, the perfectly titled Hit After Hit, on April 12 via Fat Possum. Check out the album cut "I Wanna Do It" below.
